Rockin' R Ranch
Located near Bryce Canyon National Park, with rolling hills, ponds and meadows all around, the 1,000-acre Rockin’ R Ranch is in an idyllic setting, and attracts both international tourists and Utah natives alike. Your stay at the dude ranch will be in a Western-themed suite, complete with wooden beds, living rooms with pull-out sofas, and even microwaves and mini-fridges (one mustn’t live strictly to the old way of life when on vacation, right?)
Start your day with a buffet-style breakfast at the restaurant, which also offers buffet-style lunches and dinners, so you can fill ‘er up just like a cowboy on the range with country-style baked beans and blueberry cobbler. The lodge also has a game room, dance hall, swimming pool, and children’s playground. All of the above are an added bonus, because the real reason you come to the Rockin’ R is for the abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities — and real-life lessons in the self-sufficient, hardscrabble methods of the Old West (if you choose).
There are plenty of fun activities for all levels and group sizes. If you are visiting as a couple, a family, or part of corporate retreat, there is enough going on to keep you busy for several days. Take a horse around the range, ride a haywagon with the whole gang, go tubing in a nearby river, experience a real-life cattle drive, try your aim at archery, or romp around the woods on the miles of well-maintained trails. You can also try a group dance lesson, enjoy a first-hand experience at cowboy roping, swim at a cool spot nearby, or catch a fish in a nearby stream.
Certain activities are only offered periodically throughout the year and require advanced reservations, so check the Rockin’ R Ranch website for more information. And no matter what your day entails, make sure you saddle up around a campfire for storytelling and s’mores at dusk.
